 Pleasant day?
« Thread Started on Aug 10, 2007, 11:28am »

Braeden sat on the hard park bench that lay in the middle of Stephenson Park beneath the shade of an old oak tree. The bench, as he noticed, was covered in foul-mouthed graffiti and could use a new coat of blue paint. There were a lot of things in the park that could be fixed or cleaned up. The bathrooms for example, could be scrubbed clean every once in a while. He made a mental note not to go in there again. That was disgusting. He watched over the park, couples walking hand-in-hand to little kids playing tag down by the river. They all looked like they were enjoying their days. He didn't even have a friend here in Seabrook, only his two dogs were keeping him company now. The leashes he held onto were suddenly tugged firmly by the two dogs as they noticed a few various kinds of animals roaming the park. He uttered a stern no and made sure that there was no way that the 'vicious Pits' couldn't hurt anyone. He had already been confronted by a woman that said that he should not have brought his dogs here, because all Pit Bulls were mean and would rip any child's' throat out. Sure. That woman obviously knew nothing about dogs. Okay, yeah, so he had two Pit Bulls, but how could she judge them right on the spot that they were mean? Not one person could change his mind about his Pits. They were gentle creatures and he could never imagine them hurting anyone unless they had been trained to fight.

He looked at the dogs laying down in the grass with their tongues lolling from their open jaws. Braeden opened up his backpack and shoved his books aside, grabbing for the water bottle that lay down in the depths of the bottom. He twisted the white cap, tipping it and allowing the dogs to get their thirsts' quenched. With a swift pat on their heads, the dogs were once more lazily on the ground, sprawled in the cool shade of the tree. Braeden removed one of the books from his bag and read the title to himself. Great, all it was was his Biology book. That reminded him that he had a project due soon to his professor at the North Carolina University. He still wasn't sure why he was doing a project for a professor that taught at a University that he had graduated from. At least he had something he could do at his spare time at his apartment when he had finished everything else he needed to do.

"Sampson, Daisy, shush!" he said with teeth clenched. The dogs were barking at a squirrel that had darted past them and up a nearby tree. He looked up as he saw the 'dog-smart' woman glaring at him and the dogs. "Wench." he muttered under his breath as he rose from the bench, slipping his book into the backpack and zipping it up. He put one of the straps over his shoulder and tugged at the leashes. The dogs immediately were on their feet and on the end of the leashes, barking and yelping like a little kid after candy. They wanted that squirrel, and they wanted that sucker bad. "You both need to shut your traps and act obedient if you want to be allowed to come to this park ever again. I'm warning you! Heel!" he commanded, watching patiently as the dogs finally gave up with disobeying his given order. They each sat on each side of him, looking up with their innocent puppy dog eyes like they were little angels.

He walked over to a Concession stand, telling his dogs to sit as they started to sniff anxiously at the smells. He ordered a snow cone and quickly paid for it, then made his way back to the bench. He looked disappointed as he saw a couple sitting on the bench and making out. "Eww, didn't need to see that." he said, disgusted at the couple's public display of affection. "Get a room, kiddies!" he called out and chuckled as they looked rather embarrassed to see him watching them exchange saliva. He couldn't even remember the last time he had kissed a girl. It must have been the last year of Middle school. To his own surprise, the kids got up and left, leaving the seat open to him. Score! He rushed over to it and sat down, claiming the spot as his own until he would actually leave the park. "Victory is mine!" he yelled after he checked to make sure no one was around. He took a mouthful of the snow cone and dropped a few bites for his beloved pooches. They happily lapped it up and begged for more, but received nothing more. "No more for my pudgy puppies." he cooed to them quietly, watching as a kid looked curiously at the dogs. He must have been afraid of Pits or something as he quickly scurried away while looking over his shoulder every few seconds to make sure the dogs weren't going to chase him. Braeden shook his head, some people were way too judgmental. Not all Pits were mean, it depended on their traits and environment. He had heard so much bull shit about different things that people had told him. Pits have locking jaws, Pits kill children, Pits should be destroyed and outlawed in every town, Pits aim for the throat. No dog has locking jaws, their not mechanical, they just have great jaw strength. Pits may kill children, but so do Labradors and Cocker Spaniels. Pits should not be destroyed as they are not much more different than any other breed. Pits aren't the only dogs that aim for the throat, all dogs have the instinct to do so. People just needed to shut up and keep their opinions to themselves. They had ridiculous and absurd opinions that just ticked him off. These were his dogs, his, he had had them since they were both puppies abandoned at the shelter. He couldn't just watch those poor babies locked in cages and been close to being put down that very day. He had to have them, had to save them. They were too cute to leave there, and he had experience with owning and training Pits from back when his family had a couple aggressive Pits dropped off at their farm in the country. Most of those dogs had been used for fighting and had to be kept in separate cages, but Braeden worked hard and the dogs became wonderful pets.

He stretched his arms over his head, running his fingers through his hair that had a little bit of gel in it to give it that rolled-out-of-bed look. Today was really boring so far. The only fun thing he had done was go to the gym and do his daily lifts and exercises, and after that, he took the dogs out for a 3 mile run. That's how he had ended up here in the park, it just happened to be on the way home and he figured the dogs could do for a rest. He leaned against the uncomfortable boards of the bench and watched a handful of people that passed by. His gaze drifted over their faces as they laughed and talked amongst themselves in whispers as they passed him. Some of the girls would give him flirtatious little waves and one flirtatiously walked around him, but quickly left when they noticed the dogs. Why did people do that? They were so idiotic trying to get near him, then notice the dogs and leave. The dogs were just dozing in the shade, they looked nothing near vicious. If he had been holding the leashes of Golden Retrievers, girls would be all over him, petting the dogs as if they were really interested in them. He sighed sharply, patting Sampson on the head and watched him wag his tail in happy bliss. He once more turned his attention to the people, wondering whether he should leave now or not. Something 'fun' could happen, and he was all for this 'fun'. He would be happy if even a little child or a teenage brat tried to strike up a conversation with him. Anything could be more 'fun' than just sitting around. He scooped another mouthful of his melting snow cone into his mouth and a smile etched on his lips as he noticed the dogs perking their ears up and with hopeful eyes watching him.
